About Gujarati Sahitya Mandal

The Gujarati Sahitya Mandal of Niranjana Majithia College of Commerce plays a vital role in preserving and promoting Gujarati language, literature, and culture within the institution. As the college is a Gujarati minority institution, this committee holds special significance in nurturing linguistic pride and cultural values among students.

The Mandal functions with great enthusiasm under the dedicated guidance of Sanjay Raval Sir and Shriya Pandit Madam, who take the privilege and responsibility of organizing and managing various literary and cultural events throughout the academic year. Their leadership ensures that students actively participate in activities such as essay writing, poetry recitation, elocution competitions, storytelling sessions, and celebration of important Gujarati literary days.

A special mention must be made of Jayesh Majithia Sir Managing Trustee of College, who being deeply connected to Gujarati culture, takes keen interest in all the activities of the Mandal. His encouragement and constant support inspire both students and faculty members to work with greater dedication and enthusiasm.

The Principal of the college, Dr. Reshma Vaja, provides valuable insights and guidance for every event organized under the Mandal. Her visionary leadership ensures that each activity aligns with the academic and cultural objectives of the institution.

Furthermore, Dr. Meena Mashru IQAC Co-ordinator consistently puts in extra efforts for the betterment of the college and supports all activities of the Gujarati Sahitya Mandal with dedication and commitment. Her constant motivation strengthens the committee’s initiatives and enhances the overall success of the programs conducted.

The Gujarati Sahitya Mandal thus serves as a cultural pillar of the college, fostering literary appreciation, cultural awareness, and unity among students. Through well-organized events and the collective efforts of the faculty and management, the Mandal continues to uphold the rich heritage of Gujarati language and literature with pride and excellence.

Objective:

Annual Report

1. Garba Night

The first term concluded on a vibrant and energetic note with a colorful Garba Night, organized as part of the festive celebrations of Navratri. The event beautifully showcased the rich cultural heritage of Gujarat and India. The campus resonated with festive enthusiasm as students and faculty members, dressed in traditional attire, gathered to celebrate the spirit of devotion and joy.

The program began with a brief introduction highlighting the significance of Navratri and the importance of Garba as a devotional dance dedicated to Goddess Durga. Soon, the atmosphere came alive with rhythmic folk music, synchronized claps, and coordinated Garba and Dandiya steps. Students formed lively circles and performed with great energy, grace, and enthusiasm, reflecting cultural pride and unity.

The celebration was graced by the esteemed presence of Principal Dr. Reshma Vaja and IQAC / BMS & B.Sc. IT Coordinator Dr. Meena Mashru, whose encouragement added dignity and inspiration to the event. To recognize talent and active participation, certificates and trophies were awarded by them for various categories.

Faculty members enthusiastically participated in traditional attire and actively took part in the competitions. Prizes were also awarded to faculty winners, appreciating their sporting spirit and wholehearted involvement in the celebration.

The event not only promoted cultural awareness but also strengthened unity, teamwork, and camaraderie among students and staff. The discipline, coordination, and vibrant festive spirit displayed throughout the program made the Garba Night a memorable and joyful conclusion to the first term.

1. Diya Decoration

The Diya Decoration activity was organized by the Gujarati Sahitya Mandal on 25th September 2025 at the College Campus from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The event was planned with the objective of celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Gujarat and encouraging students to actively participate in traditional art forms associated with Indian festivals.

The program began with a brief introduction about the cultural and spiritual importance of diyas in Indian tradition. A total of nine students participated enthusiastically in the activity. Each participant was provided with clay diyas and basic decorative materials. Students used a variety of creative elements such as acrylic colors, glitter, mirrors, beads, stones, lace, and eco-friendly decorative items to design their diyas. The activity encouraged students to think innovatively while staying connected to traditional values. The coordinators moved around, guiding students, appreciating their efforts, and motivating them to express their creativity freely. The atmosphere was joyful and festive, promoting interaction, cultural awareness, and a sense of togetherness among participants.

3.Dandiya Decoration

As a part of the vibrant Navratri celebrations, the Gujarati Sahitya Mandal organized a Dandiya Competition on 26th September 2025 at the College Campus.The competition aimed to highlight the cultural richness of Gujarat, where Dandiya and Garba hold immense traditional and spiritual importance during Navratri.A total of 12 students enthusiastically participated in the competition. Participants were provided with basic materials, and they further used decorative items such as colorful ribbons, mirrors, beads, ghungroos, lace, fabric pieces, paints, and glitter to beautifully design and embellish Dandiya sticks and Garba props. Some participants even incorporated traditional Gujarati patterns and vibrant color combinations reflecting the festive spirit of Navratri.

The atmosphere during the competition was lively and energetic. Students displayed remarkable creativity, originality, and attention to detail in their designs. The coordinators observed the participants’ work, offering encouragement and appreciating their innovative ideas. The competition was judged on the basis of creativity, neatness, originality, traditional touch, and overall presentation.

3.Aarti Thali Decoration

On 22nd January 2026, the Gujarati Sahitya Mandal organized an Aarti Thali Decoration activity that beautifully blended devotion with creativity. The campus carried a calm yet festive energy as students gathered with enthusiasm to participate in this culturally enriching event.

On the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami, the Gujarati Sahitya Mandal organized an Aarti Thali Decoration activity to celebrate the arrival of spring and to honor Goddess Saraswati, the symbol of wisdom, knowledge, and arts. The event beautifully combined cultural traditions with artistic expression, creating a serene and joyful environment on campus.

Outcomes:

  • Students develop improved reading, writing, and speaking skills in Gujarati through active participation in literary activities.
  • Students gain deeper understanding of Gujarati traditions, values, literature, and historical contributions.

Birthday Celebration of “Poet Narmad”

GSM had organized “International Gujarati Language Day” as well as Birth anniversary of Poet Narmad on 24/8/2018. At 11 am in the college seminar hall. Nearly 100 students were present. It started with the history of Poet Narmad how he contributed to Gujarati Sahitya. It was a great success.

GSM had organized “Gujarati Essay Writing Competition”

On “Gandhiji” on 3rd October 2018 at 11 am in the block no.29.nearly 10-12students participated in the competition. This competition was held to enhance their knowledge and skills in their language.

GSM had organized ” Gujarati Movie”

on 4th October 2018 at 12.10pm PVR Milap, Kandivali(west).this movie was accompanied by 3 teachers and 3 students. The movie was about 3friends and how they try to accomplish their goals. The students learned a lot from this movie.
