The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension (DLLE) plays a vital role in connecting academic learning with real-life social responsibility. It aims to sensitize students to social issues, civic duties, and national development through experiential learning. DLLE encourages students to actively participate in community-based programs that promote awareness, leadership, and ethical values.
Through seminars, rallies, competitions, training programs, and social campaigns, DLLE helps students develop communication skills, critical thinking, teamwork, and a strong sense of citizenship. The department acts as a bridge between the university and society, fostering responsible individuals who contribute meaningfully to social progress.

Event: Silent Rally on Railway and Road Safety Rules
Date: 20th September 2024
On 20th September 2024, the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension organized a Silent Rally to create awareness about Railway and Road Safety Rules. The rally began at 10:15 a.m. from the department and proceeded through M. G. Road. Students, teachers, and volunteers participated by carrying placards with safety messages such as “Follow Traffic Rules,” “Stop at Red Lights,” “Use Foot Over Bridges at Railways,” and “Wear Helmets, Save Lives.” As it was a silent rally, no slogans were shouted, emphasizing the visual impact of the messages. More than 35 students from various colleges actively participated, with support from the local traffic police, who ensured smooth movement and safety during the event. The rally successfully raised public awareness and was appreciated for its peaceful and effective approach toward promoting road and railway safety.
Event: Debate Competition
Date: 20th September 2024
The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension organized a debate on 29th August on the issue of child labour, focusing on whether it should be completely banned or regulated. Students from various departments participated enthusiastically and were divided into two teams. Team A argued for a complete ban, emphasizing the violation of children’s rights, exploitation, harmful working conditions, loss of education, and the global responsibility to protect children. Team B supported regulation, highlighting economic realities faced by poor families, the possibility of ensuring safe working conditions, and opportunities for skill development.
After evaluating both perspectives, the judges appreciated the depth of research and passion shown by both teams but concluded that a complete ban, along with improved education and economic support for families, is the most effective long-term solution. Team A was declared the winner. Ananya Singh from Team A was awarded Best Speaker, while Vikram Rao from Team B received the Runner-Up Speaker award. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a call to work towards a future free from child labour.
Event: Essay Writing Competition on “Status of Senior Citizens”

The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension organized an essay writing competition on 28th August on the topic “Status of Senior Citizens” to raise awareness among students about the challenges and contributions of senior citizens in society. Students from various departments participated and presented well-researched essays examining the social, economic, and emotional conditions of the elderly.
The essays highlighted key issues such as social inclusion, health and mental well-being, economic difficulties, and the legal rights and government policies meant to support senior citizens. Participants emphasized the importance of respect and dignity for the elderly, the value of intergenerational bonding, and the role of government initiatives like pension schemes, healthcare services, and welfare programs.
The judges appreciated the thoughtful analysis and depth of understanding shown by the students. Overall, the competition successfully sensitized participants to the realities faced by senior citizens and encouraged a more inclusive and respectful approach toward the elderly in society.

Students actively participated and used various materials to create posters conveying strong messages about protecting nature. Event: Street Play (Pollution)

On 4th October 2024, students of the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension (DLLE) staged a powerful street play titled “Pollution” at the college ground floor to create awareness about the growing problem of pollution and its harmful impact on the environment and human health.
The play used engaging dialogues, visuals, and props to capture attention and deliver a strong message. Through characters like Citizen A, who represented public indifference, Citizen B, who advocated environmental responsibility, and the Nature Spirit, the performance highlighted the consequences of air and water pollution. The storyline showed a transformation from neglect to collective action, culminating in scenes of community efforts such as cleaning plastic waste and planting trees.
Audience participation and a post-performance discussion helped deepen understanding of local pollution issues and possible solutions. Overall, the street play effectively conveyed the urgency of addressing pollution and inspired the audience to adopt environmentally responsible habits for a cleaner and healthier future.
Event: First-Term Training for DLLE Students Registered Under Mumbai University

The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension (DLLE) of Niranjana Majithia College of Commerce and Management, affiliated with Mumbai University, conducted its first-term training program on 5th July 2024 in the college seminar hall. The program was organized to orient and guide students registered under DLLE and to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills for effective participation in extension activities.
The training session provided an overview of DLLE’s mission and objectives, explained project guidelines, and clarified the roles and responsibilities of students, coordinators, and faculty members. Participants were also guided on documentation, report writing, and evaluation procedures. A motivational session highlighted the role of youth in social development. Interactive group discussions, Q&A sessions, and practical activities helped students better understand real-life challenges related to extension work.
The program witnessed active participation from students and faculty coordinators, with enthusiastic involvement from colleges in the Borivali area. On 3rd October, the Election Commission conducted a voting awareness and new voter registration drives in Room No. 30 of the college to educate students about the importance of voting and assist first-time voters in registering.
The event included an interactive session on the significance of voting, a step-by-step demonstration of the voter registration process (Form 6), and on-the-spot registration for students with the required documents. A lively Q&A session allowed participants to clarify doubts about voting rights, ID requirements, and the Election Commission’s role.
The drive successfully registered numerous students as new voters and inspired them to actively participate in upcoming elections. Overall, the initiative raised awareness about the power of voting, empowered students with essential knowledge, and promoted youth engagement in strengthening democracy.

Pamphlets were distributed, providing information on voter registration and polling procedures. A short street play highlighted the consequences of voter apathy, and organizers interacted with residents to address their queries about voting.

Event: “Violence Against Women” Skirt

The evocative act play “Violence Against Women – A Journey Through Time” explored the historical and contemporary realities of gender-based violence, tracing its persistence from mythological times to the present day.
The play opened with Draupadi’s Vastra Haran from the Mahabharata, symbolizing the deep-rooted oppression and humiliation of women. It then moved to real-life incidents, including the Nirbhaya case (2012), the Badlapur case, and a recent Kolkata case, highlighting the brutality, societal apathy, and emotional trauma faced by women across different eras and communities.
Through powerful performances and seamless transitions between mythological, historical, and modern contexts, the play emphasized the universality and timelessness of violence against women. It concluded with a poignant monologue urging collective action, education, awareness, and stronger laws to ensure women’s safety and dignity.
Overall, the performance was a compelling, thought-provoking portrayal that left the audience deeply moved and inspired a call to action against gender-based violence
Event: Maharashtra Policy for Women (Seminar)

A seminar on Maharashtra Policy for Women was conducted on 10th March 2025 in Room No. 32, led by Ms. Trupti Ashok Bharadi, to raise awareness about government policies and initiatives for women’s empowerment and welfare.
The seminar covered key areas including education and skill development, health and nutrition, employment and entrepreneurship, safety and security, and social welfare schemes. Participants learned about scholarships, vocational training, healthcare programs, laws against domestic violence, financial aid for women entrepreneurs, and support for widows and single mothers.
The event successfully enhanced understanding of women-centric policies, encouraged discussions on gender equality and women’s rights, and inspired attendees to actively participate in initiatives promoting women’s welfare. The session concluded with an interactive segment where participants shared thoughts and queries, making it both informative and engaging.

Event: Elocution Competition
Date:22nd January, wednesday
An elocution competition on the theme “Importance of Ethics and Values” was held on 22nd January in Room No. 18 to promote awareness of moral principles and encourage value-driven behavior among students.
Participants, speaking in Hindi, Marathi, or English, shared their views on honesty, respect, responsibility, kindness, and other essential values, with each student given three minutes to present. The competition enhanced public speaking skills, boosted confidence, and encouraged self-reflection on personal behavior and responsibilities.
The judges appreciated the clarity, confidence, and impactful messages delivered by the students. Overall, the event was a success, inspiring participants and the audience to uphold ethics and values in daily life and fostering a sense of responsible citizenship.
